20 Ways To Be Active With Holiday Feasting
Dec 1st 2011
1. Like the many Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trots that take place from town to town, take part in a pre-feast 3.5 or 5k walk/jog event.
2. Set out your JumpSport Fitness Trampoline(s)™ for everyone to bounce on- they're stackable for easy clean-up!
3. Set out on a dog-friendly fitness or nature trail and walk the dog!
4. Go on a camping trip, celebrating togetherness in a more rustic style; fetch wood, canoe, hike, and fish.
5. Warm up the arm (or both arms if you're ambidextrous) and play a couple rounds of catch- go long or go for a game of frisbee!
6. Hand out flashlights, and have a twilight or evening game of flashlight tag.
7. Set out bubbles at the “kid's table” and have the kids run around the yard, driveway, or the park across the street, enjoying bubbles.
8. While dinner cooks, and the family is all together, recruit a couple of older kids and adults to take kids to a playground.
9. Volunteer at a food kitchen for set-up or take-down; each of those activities require good 'ol physical effort and are very social, but be sure to wear your tennis shoes!
10. Enjoy a long, after-feast, neighborhood stroll, and share the stories of Holidays past, telling your young ones why you celebrate.
11. Have everyone pitch in to help clean up; no lazy bones!
12. Hula hoops, jump ropes, & balls of all kinds at the ready are irresistible. If you don’t have them, ask your guests to bring theirs.
13. Have a freeze dance! Make it a game with your favorite music and fun prizes!
14. Have the kids join in and clean up trash or remove exotic invasive plants from a natural area or local park.
15. If you’re like many American families, the TV will probably be turned on to watch football. Make up games that coincide with the action. If your team scores a touch down, jump up and down to the number of points they have. If the other team intercepts the ball, do push-ups, sit-ups or crunchies (x30, for example).
16. Lawn games like horse shoes, bocce ball, croquet, and badminton; they can be ramped-up or slowed-down for the stuffed bellies.
17. 'Tis the season for a game of touch football.
18. Organize a block party with contests like tug-of-war, hula-hooping, jump-roping, 50-yard dashes, and relays.
19. Set out on a long bike ride exploring your neighborhood, the woods, or your city.
20. Tidy up the yard. Weed the flower beds, cut the lawn, and trim bushes. Start the Winter season out with a fresh garden that is ready for stringing lights.
Enjoy togetherness, give unto others, and get your wiggles out! Happy Holidays to you and yours!
